Tom Duntemann I am, in practice and temperament, a watercolorist. Largely self taught, I would have to say that I have been informally educated by the likes of Homer, Sargent, Wyeth and many others, whom I have studies and admired. I try to convey my feelings as I observe a subject, either prolonged or fleeting. Being an optimist, these are subjects that I find calming, enjoyable or exciting. I feel accomplished when I can connect, in that way , with the observer.
Watercolor’s subtlety and quickness of application provide me with the tools and the challenges. My subjects are influenced by the local culture and environment, as well as my travels and life experiences. I am particularly interested in aviation subjects , which are not usually portrayed in watercolor. I have been honored to achieve Signature Status this year with the Virginia Watercolor Society.
