CBW History
In 1980, a group of watercolor artists began painting together at the Bow Creek Recreation Center in Virginia Beach. The artists’ skill levels ranged from beginner to the very experienced professional. Each Wednesday the group had an “open workshop” where they shared their technical skills and knowledge and benefited through critiques. This led to the formation of the Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists organization in 1982.
The organization was designed to include both critiques and demonstrations to benefit the beginner as well as the professional. We continue this tradition today. Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists is open to all local artists and art enthusiasts who have a shared passion for watercolor media and share our mission statement.
Many fine artists have been members the past four decades who work extremely hard to grow CBW. We are a proactive, growing organization with artists of various skill levels that hold AWS, VWS memberships, sell internationally, and whose art is held in private collections throughout the US. Our group is a “work in progress” and dreams of enlarging the influence of the watercolor arts in Tidewater and beyond. We welcome you to be a part of a growing organization.
