In Memory Of Rena Harmon Passed Away October 8, 2024 I have been painting seriously since 1972. I took private lessons in Acrylics and Pastels. I took lessons in pastel portraits from Francis Beamon. I studied other mediums in classes at Tidewater Community College, ODU, and at area recreational centers. I have participated in workshops in Raleigh, N.C. and Virginia Beach, VA. My favorite style is pastel portraits. I favorite mediums are oils, acrylics, pastel, charcoal and watercolors. I have participated in many shows both individual as well as group shows. I have been fortunate enough to win several awards at juried Art Festivals and Fairs. I have shown paintings at the following places: Old Town Gallery in Portsmouth, VA; Gallery 11 in Virginia Beach, VA. I have had individual shows at Chesapeake Central Library and Hillard Library in Chesapeake, VA. In group shows, I have participated at Wells Fargo Bank, Norfolk, VA, at Towne Bank Pavillion One in Virginia Beach, at Lighthouse Point in Chesapeake, at Cape Henry in Virginia Beach, at Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, at Moyock Library in Moyock, N.C., at South Norfolk Library in Chesapeake, at Old SNO Gallery in Chesapeake, at the Botanical Gardens in Norfolk, at the Virginia State Fair in Richmond, Virginia, at the Suffolk Art Association in Suffolk, at Birdsong in Suffolk, at the Eastern Shore, Dr. Minrev, at the Kroc Center in Norfolk, Virginia 2nd, the Unity Renaissance. I was born in Smyth County in Virginia. Lived in Marion and graduated at Sugar Grove High School. Before the death of my husband, on October 28, 2010, we were married 55 years. We have four children, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. We have lived in Deep Creek 57 years. I retired from Chesapeake Public Schools in 1999. I belong to Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists, Paint for Fun, and Southside Artist Association. I have served as Vice President for Southside Artist Association for two years. I also served as Co-President for Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists for two years.
