Nancy Topping Bazin
Nancy has always loved art. She was chosen to spend five years taking special Saturday art classes in Pittsburgh. After earning an M.A. in French, a PhD in English, and retiring from a 29-year career of university teaching, she returned to this first love. She then took twenty years of classes and workshops and now exhibits continuously at The Artists Gallery (Virginia Beach), the D’Art Center (Norfolk where she lives), and The Gallery Shop (Portsmouth). She has exhibited throughout Hampton Roads as well as in several state, regional, and national shows. Nancy experimented with mediums and subjects but then created her first “whimsical bird” painting in 2012. This became her signature style and subject matter. After many solo exhibits of the forty-one whimsical birds she painted over the years, she began Birdland--a new series in a square format. Jeff Harrison, Curator Emeritus of the Chrysler Museum, wrote: “Creating an entire world is an uphill battle for any artist, but Nancy Topping Bazin has done just that, populating a whimsical realm of fantastic feathered creatures, a world of brilliant color and bold, semi-abstract patterns.” Bird Watching
